Kalklitir

Kalklitir is an Icelandic lime paint that creates a naturally matt, nuanced finish with visible depth and movement. Made from minerals and pigments, the paint comes as a powder that is mixed with water before use. Brush strokes, light and colour all influence the finished surface, creating a more varied appearance than conventional wall paint.

Kalklitir works beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and other interior spaces where you want a calm yet characterful wall finish. The palette ranges from soft neutrals, beiges and greys to deeper muted colours.

The paint is normally applied with a wide brush in two coats. It can be used on many stable, clean interior surfaces, although some substrates require a suitable primer before painting.

At Aveo, you'll find Kalklitir lime paints, colour samples, Primer and Top Coat together with practical guidance for your painting project.

FAQ

What kind of finish does Kalklitir lime paint create?

Kalklitir creates a completely matt surface with natural variation and visible depth. Brush technique, colour and changing light all contribute to the finished appearance.

Can I use Kalklitir over an already painted wall?

Yes, on many properly prepared surfaces. Previously water-based painted walls can be suitable, while oil-based surfaces and areas with repairs may require an appropriate acrylic primer.

Do I need Kalklitir Top Coat?

Not necessarily. Top Coat can be added when extra protection against stains, marks and splashes is required while retaining a matt finish.

How much Kalklitir lime paint do I need?

Aveo's guidance estimates that 1 kg of powder mixed with approximately 1.7 litres of water covers around 8 m² with two coats. Actual coverage can vary with the surface and application.

Instructions & Coverage

Kalklitir is delivered as a powder and is mixed with clean water before painting. Mix well and let the mixture rest for at least 10 minutes before use. Painting is best done with a wide brush in two coats, giving the surface depth and vibrancy.

Coverage:

  • 60 g powder + 100 ml water ≈ 1 m²
  • 250 g powder + 425 ml water ≈ 2 m²
  • 1 kg powder + 1.7 l water ≈ 8 m² (two coats)
Kalklitir is best suited for plaster and mineral surfaces. If necessary, a primer suitable for lime paint can be used. Detailed instructions can be found on the product page and in our painting guide.
